Your Top Pre Workout Questions Answered

Reading time - 9 mins

Want to get started with a pre workout but not sure which one is the right one for you? Or want to know the basics about supplementing with pre workout? You're in the right place. We answer all your questions about pre workouts here! Let's get started!

When should you take pre-workout?

Usually, pre-workout is taken 20-30 minutes before training. The effects of pre workouts can last a long time in your system, so it's wise to keep your pre to morning or lunchtime. Depending on your caffeine sensitivity and the rate at which you metabolise the supplement, too much pre workout or the wrong timing can affect your sleep. If you have your pre workout at night, you will most likely struggle to get to sleep or stay asleep (unless you're one of the few super-tolerant people who can just pass out!).

How much pre workout should you take?

This is a tricky question because it depends on factors like your sensitivity to caffeine and whether you're just trying it out for the first time. If you've never had a pre workout before, it's better to start with only a half scoop. This way, you'll be able to test your tolerance/sensitivity before you decide to take the full amount. Some people find they don't need more than a half scoop, whereas others may find that the recommended dose is too low.

Follow the instructions on the label, and always err on the side of caution! If in doubt, your local store has expert staff on hand to help guide you. Over time, you will become tolerant of the pre workout, so you may see a stronger effect in the beginning.

Why does pre workout make you itchy?

This is due to the presence of Beta-Alanine - some search for it, and others completely avoid it! If you don't want Beta-Alanine, there are plenty of options that don't contain this compound.

Beta-Alanine works by being a precursor to carnosine synthesis, assisting in increasing the levels of carnosine in your muscle. This results in workout performance improvements, which is why this ingredient is so popular in today's pre workout formulations. The tingles/itch that you may experience are a side-effect and typically occur in the face and upper body, usually lasting for around 30 minutes. It is a form of paresthesia and is not dangerous to you (though it may be unsettling for some). If you'd like to minimise the effect, consider either splitting up your dosage or having smaller amounts.

Nexus PER4M vs. PER4M 2.0

Per4m 2.0 By Nexus Sports Nutrition

Nexus Sports Nutrition has released an upgraded version of its popular pre-workout supplement, PER4M, with the introduction of PER4M 2.0. This new supp marks a significant overhaul of the original formula, promising a more intense and comprehensive training experience. The biggest differences are the increased potency of several key ingredients, positioning PER4M 2.0 as a higher-stimulant option for serious athletes.

While the original PER4M was already considered a potent pre-workout, PER4M 2.0 has a significantly higher caffeine dosage, making it unsuitable for individuals sensitive to stimulants. This will provide users with a more explosive and sustained energy boost throughout their workouts.

PER4M 2.0 also features a stronger "pump" matrix. The concentration of L-citrulline, a key amino acid that promotes blood flow and muscle pumps, has been notably increased in the 2.0 version. This suggests a greater emphasis on enhancing vasodilation for improved nutrient delivery and a more pronounced "pump" sensation during exercise.

The nootropic, or focus-enhancing, components of the formula have also been amplified in PER4M 2.0. Indicating a stronger focus on improving mental clarity, concentration, and the mind-muscle connection during training sessions.

While the original Nexus PER4M established itself as a formidable pre-workout, PER4M 2.0 is positioned as a "full rebuild" and a more aggressive formulation. It is tailored for experienced supp users seeking a higher level of intensity in their energy, focus, and muscle pump ingredients. The original PER4M remains a strong option, while its successor caters to those who have developed a tolerance and are seeking a next-level pre-workout experience.
