Switch Hydrate vs Hydrate+: What's the Difference?

Reading time - 4 mins

If you've stood in front of the Switch Nutrition shelf wondering "wait, do I need the one with the plus or without?"  you're not alone. Both formulas are built on the same rock-solid electrolyte foundation, but they're designed for two very different jobs. Here's the breakdown.

The Quick Answer

Hydrate is your everyday, caffeine-free hydration and energy hit, built for busy days, mental focus, and light training.

Hydrate Perform is your endurance fuel, built for longer, harder sessions where you need carbs in the tank as well as electrolytes.

Who Each One Is For

Hydrate is for you if:

  • You want an all-day hydration top-up that isn't tied to a workout
  • You need a stim-free energy and focus boost (think: 3 pm slump, big workday, travel day)
  • You're doing shorter or lower-intensity training and don't need extra carbs
  • You want a lighter, no-added-sugar formula you can sip daily

Hydrate Perform is for you if:

  • You're training hard, training long, or competing (think: endurance sessions, team sport, hot weather sessions)
  • You need fuel and fluid — not just electrolytes
  • You're chasing performance and recovery around intense workouts
  • You don't mind the extra carbs because you're going to burn through them

What Actually Sets Them Apart

Both formulas share the same backbone: a full-spectrum blend of 5 essential electrolytes in a 2:1 sodium-to-potassium ratio, plus taurine to help regulate electrolyte balance. Where they split is in the extras.

Hydrate leaves carbs out entirely and instead leans on:

  • B vitamins (B3, B6, B9, B12) – support energy metabolism without stimulants
  • CoffeeBerry® (chlorogenic acid) – a caffeine-free source of mental focus and energy
  • Glycine – supports the amino acid profile without adding fuel load

Hydrate Perform swaps the focus-support ingredients for fuel:

  • 21g of fast-acting carbohydrates (dextrose) – designed to fuel endurance and keep energy topped up during longer efforts
  • A bigger overall serve (around 30g vs Hydrate's 6g) to deliver that carb load alongside the electrolytes

In short: same electrolyte engine, different add-on: one tuned for focus, one tuned for fuel.

When To Take Them

Hydrate: One serve first thing in the morning, or whenever you need a hydration or focus reset. Also works well before or after lighter training. Cap it at two serves in 24 hours.

Hydrate Perform: Best taken before, during, or after intense or prolonged exercise. This is where the carbs earn their keep. It can also be used any time you want a bigger hydration and energy boost, not just around training.

The Bottom Line

Think of Hydrate as your daily driver and Hydrate+ as your race-day (or gym-day) fuel tank. If you're not sure which to grab, ask yourself: am I replacing minerals after a big day, or am I fuelling through a big session? That answer will point you to the right tub.
