Coffee has gotten a bad reputation in the past. Most of which is unwarranted. In fact, Coffee makes up close to 60% of our daily intake of antioxidants in the modern western diet. This outranks both fruits and vegetables combined.
Studies show coffee drinkers have up to a 67% lower risk of Type II diabetes, are at a much lower risk of getting Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and have up to an 80% lower risk of liver diseases or cirrhosis.
Caffeine also helps to mobilize fatty acids from fat stores, boost metabolism and increase exercise performance by an average of 12%.
Many studies have examined the effects of caffeine on the brain, showing it can improve mood, memory, reaction time and overall brain function and health.
If you’re sensitive to caffeine or it tends to disrupt your sleep, then green tea has many similar health benefits with a smaller amount of caffeine.
