The “Pill” That Will Lower Stress

Reading time - 6 mins

Have you heard of the new “pill” that helps to lower stress? This magical new pill can potentially help you lower cortisol levels. And the best part? It’s FREE! Researchers have found that NATURE is the key to reducing stress.

Let me tell you a little more about this…

What pill?

There are many studies out that have revealed that nature can contribute to lowering stress, however, there was never a time frame of how long you should be exposed to nature as well as frequency and type of it.

This new research investigated all that, and let me say that just 20 to 30 minutes of sitting or walking through nature will actually help you reduce cortisol levels. You might be saying “ok easy said than done!”. With everyday busy lives and more and more buildings around us, it’s probably difficult to find “nature” around us.

Where to find this pill?

Ok, you got me here, but according to the study finding a place that makes you feel connected to nature will help. For example, your backyard might just be useful as well as a local park or garden. Connecting yourself with nature and disconnecting with technology and the outside world is the key.

So, a tip here…. There’s no point of finding yourself in a beautiful park while you are actually looking at your phone or reading a book. Make sure when you are on that 20-30 minutes of “nature time out” you are connected to it and not to your phone!

The whole point of the study was to show the time of connection to nature and the frequency of it would consequently affect stress levels.

The best part of this "nature pill" is that you can take it whenever you feel like it! No need for a prescription!

Make a habit on your lunchtime, for example, go outside and "connect" to nature for 20-30 minutes. It doesn’t have to be every day, but 2 to 3 times a week should be enough to feel the benefits.

What If...

What if you just can’t get to nature and stress is ruling your life? It’s ok don’t stress… there are many supplements out that may help reduce the levels of cortisol. As we all know, high cortisol can affect your health.

Some of the symptoms of high cortisol levels are:

  • Depression
  • Fatigue and insomnia
  • Weight gain and obesity
  • Back pain
  • Lack of concentration
  • Low libido and menstrual abnormalities

Cortisol can affect you mentally and physically, so lowering it is essential for a healthy life. Some of the other ways you can naturally lower stress levels if you can’t get to nature are:

  • Yoga
  • Good night sleep
  • Relaxation techniques

These are just a few of the ways to lowering cortisol and stress levels. Find the best way that fits with your lifestyle and get down to business as chronic stress can put your health at risk.

Final Notes

We all know that reducing stress and cortisol levels are essential for a happy and healthy life, mentally and physically. There are many ways to lowering it and connecting yourself with nature twice or 3 times a week could be the key to a happy life. It’s free and easy, so there’s no excuse that you can’t achieve that.

Taking the “nature pill” might be the key to solving all your stress issues. Get out there connect with nature, turn off your phone and focus for 20 minutes in the environment you are in, be present and enjoy the "nature pill".
