Q What is Horse Chestnut, and how can it support circulation and blood vessels?
A Horse Chestnuts (commonly known as “Conkers”) are the seeds of the Horse Chestnut tree. Native to South-eastern Europe, they have been traditionally used – both externally and internally – to maintain blood vessel and circulation health, and to support individuals who suffer from aching or swollen legs.
Today, scientists have isolated a compound called Escin (or Aescin) in Horse Chestnuts, which appears to be responsible for the herb’s ability to maintain capillary and vein integrity and assist with peripheral circulation. The way in which it does this is now well enough understood that Horse Chestnut is recommended by such respected authorities as the German Commission E Monographs and the Cochrane Review.
Q What other supporting herbs and nutrients does this product include and why?
A To support the actions of Horse Chestnut, Nutra-Life Horse Chestnut 2000 Complex also contains:
- Butcher’s Broom: a European herb with a long history of use in maintaining circulation in the legs, and providing support to those who experience heaviness or swelling in the legs and ankles.
- Ginkgo: an ancient herb that has been used both to support peripheral circulation, and to maintain healthy capillary walls through its antioxidant properties.
- Gotu Kola: a well known Ayurvedic circulatory tonic herb that helps to support vein health.
- Bilberry: a close relative of the common blueberry, this herb is rich in the antioxidants that help the body to protect itself against free radical damage – especially to the capillaries.
- Vitamin C and Hesperidin: nutrient cofactors with powerful antioxidant properties, which help the body to protect itself against free radical damage to the veins, arteries and capillaries.
